In 2012, RTR Pilates expanded operations to three studios in the DMV. While going from one studio to three studios in the span of 18 months was ambitious (and a bit of an accident), we could never have done so without our fantastic instructors. And because of our rapid expansion, we also realized that we needed even more team members to bring our vision to life. Thus, RTR Pilates’ Training Program was born!
Since its inception, RTR’s Training Program has been an opportunity to expand our community with instructors who specialize in RTR’s efficient (and fun!) style of reformer Pilates.
Now, our Training Program has expanded to focus on creating full-time opportunities for individuals interested in building a sustainable, long-term career.
“This training program we are excited to have our first program focused solely on full-time instructors. We’re aiming to provide an immersive experience to train new instructors to teach well-rounded classes starting in the fall.” – Sara, RTR’s Director of Training
The benefits of becoming a Pilates instructor
With five locations around the DMV, we support a vibrant community. Through Pilates, we help wellness-minded adults manage stress, combat pain, strengthen and restore their bodies, and empower themselves in all aspects of life.
Alongside a career based in connection, training to become a Pilates instructor with RTR will provide you with a thorough understanding of anatomy, Pilates, and effective teaching methods. Our program will prepare you to become a confident, effective instructor, and our focus on sustainable careers provides long-term career opportunities.
Why instructors choose RTR Pilates
Crafted by our founder, Reina Offutt, the RTR training program teaches the essence of what it takes to help people transform their bodies and their lives. Through our unique training program, we empower instructors to create programs that integrate their own style and personality with efficient flows and effective exercises.
Our training program is designed to maximize impactful instruction through a combination of online and in-person modules.
Because of our hybrid instruction model, we are able to dive deeper in the classroom, with more 1-on-1 attention for our students and expert instructors. During our in-person instruction, instructors learn how to teach, level up or down a class, and implement modifications, alongside a detailed understanding of human anatomy.
We want each of our team members to feel totally confident and capable of handling all aspects of a Pilates class. It’s work, but it’s also a whole lot of fun, and the end result is a prepared, empowered you.
What I love about our training program is the support that trainees feel both throughout the program and after. I am there every step of the way to help and support them. We also have a great group of instructors that are involved in training who do the same. Beyond the training program, trainees will work with our Director of Instructor Development, Jordan, to continue their learning as they start teaching.” – Sara, RTR’s Director of Training
Build a sustainable career as a full time instructor
Many instructors focus on Pilates as a side hustle – something to augment your day-job. Even if fitness instruction is your passion, we know that for sustainable careers, we also need stability, and health insurance, and a 401(k).
Here at RTR, we intentionally provide an employment structure and schedule that makes Pilates attainable as a full-time career. For full-time instructors, we provide health insurance, a 401(k) plan, and opportunities for administrative hours, so you can build a career around your passions.
We work with our team to build schedules that don’t cause burnout – because Pilates is meant to build people up, and that includes our instructors.
“One of the most cherished aspects of attending RTR instructor training for me was the invaluable opportunity to spend long hours with fellow Pilates enthusiasts. We dove deep into understanding each movement, and collectively figuring out efficient and effective ways to teach them. The best part, undoubtedly, was the people. We had this awesome mix of folks from different backgrounds and experiences, all brought together by our love for Pilates. We shared stories, cracked jokes, and supported each other throughout the journey.” – Mufeng, RTR Pilates Instructor
